Surrey Awards Night
Thursday 11 June
A big thank you to all those people who turned up last Thursday at St.George's Hill to our first ever Awards Night and our thanks to the club and Danny Lee for hosting the event and putting so much work into running it.
The prize giving part of the evening started promptly at 7.40pm and trophies were presented to the winning teams by Tom Richards, the Surrey No 1 and St.George's Hill player. Not only did most of the clubs send a representative to collect their trophies, but a large number of junior players from the various clubs were also there, which was a great effort and many players from Surrey clubs generally helped to fill the balcony and seating.
The exhition match between Tom Richards and Robbie Temple started just after 8.00pm, marked by Claire Baker and her team of junior referees! It was a best of 3 games match, PAR 11 scoring, which Tom narrowly won 11-10 in the third!
Afterwards, Danny interviewed the players, who told us about their training, favourite venues and toughest opponents - it will be no surprise to discover that both players picked David Palmer! - and also answered questions from the audience.
With perfect timing, food was available in the bar at 9.00pm and with drinks on the terrace overlooking the lake, a great finish to the evening.
More photographs will be posted on this site soon, and we look forward to seeing you all at the AGM at Purley Squash Club on July 15th.
