| Report: | Well, the evening started off badly for both teams, playing a match on tennis club night at Dorking is never a good idea with the shortage of car parking places (and Murray was on TV what's wrong with tennis players?)!!
The result indicates a very close match which indeed it was (ish).
The 4th string players went on first despite the fact Bourne 2nd string wanted to go on early to make an early departure...(he was stuck in traffic on A3 I think). All was going very well at 16-16 in the 1st game with some cracking points being claimed by both players...sadly for Nitin (and Dorking) a recurring knee injury would put an end to any further play...Sohail claiming a 3-0 victory.
The 3rd string were under way on court A Ed managing to sneak it in 3 with Stuart trying to make a fight of it in the 3rd game.
Pauls opponent eventually made it to Dorking and play was started as soon as he could get changed (fortunately with the 4th string game finishing early that wasn't to be a problem...)Peter grabbed the 1st game but after a change of marker (after claims that some service calls were dubious...I'm not saying anymore!!) Paul changed tactics I think to sneak the next 2...sadly for Peter his time was up and he had to concede the 4th game.
Mark was up against Jon both players were having some lengthy exchanges in all the games, with errors creeping in the latter ones. Jon sneaking it in a close 4th game.
So 2-2 in games 7-7 in points... the game point had to be added up without the use of a calculator, it transpired that Bourne won by 179-166. It wasn't worth getting the calculator out it wouldn't have made any difference!
Well played Bourne. Hope this was a fair summary of a great evening.
As for Nitin he didn't hang himself just 14 points in a losing cause would have made the difference...If only he could kick himself. Yes if only............ |
