Report: | James Hine, on time, turned up alone from Cannons. He played Holger, who was drafted in when the Sutton Number 2 was called on wife duty (some weak excuse about it being her birthday). Holger has had little league experience and even with the whole Sutton contingent glaring down on James, it was a very one-sided match with James one pace ahead of Holger. But watch out Holger will gain experince and seek revenge. The other guys turned up before midnight so we continued with the match. Out step the number ones...and boy were we in for a spectacle. The intense powerful steam train Tim Cox against a laid back 'give me everything you got' David Carlisle. So Tim duly applied and gave it his all to take the first game. By the second game David had cottoned on to Tim's style and casual batted back everything Tim threw at him. Tim also made a lot of errors and conceded the game to love. By the third game they knew each other and we were enthralled to a closely fought battle, Mike just edging it. The fourth was finely balanced and Tim took it to bring on a five game decided. The last gane was fiercely fought and almost got physical...but David just casually returned (often as a lob) all Tim's drives. At 7 all Tim stepped up a gear and more from brute force bullied the game from David. Tim remains unbeaten this season. Whilst the big battle was being fought on court 1, the other 2 ties were played on court 2. Mike Connaghton played some of his best squash this season to steal the first game from Cameron. They have very different styles which lent to an entertaining encounter resulting in many long and gasping rallies. Cameron blasted Mike out of the second game to 2 points., however the 3rd game was were it was lost by Mike. He was in the running (and boy did he do some running) up to the end but again some low powershots and drops caught Mike out. By the 4th game Cameron was getting into his stride. For Nick's sake I'll say very little about his game. He lost. And so did Sutton. |
