Report: | In a nutshell Christopher's were very strong and Sutton could not compete. Their fourth seed, Mark Dawkins, has in the past played at one, so was in a different league to Neil O'Neil. In the same fixture at Wimbeldon this season Tim Cox beat David Pigot; whereas David gave Tim a whitewash this time, something that has not happened to Tim all season. Tim was suffering from a back injury, but David played exceptionally well. The closest game was the 2nd seeds, which fought a rare old battle. Phil Burton, the veteran of the Surrey leagues, came out on top after a thrilling five setter. There was an interesting game between Mike and Andrew (3rd seeds). Mike lost the first two games relatively easily and was match point down in the third (3-8). Then followed some long grueling rallies and Mike fought back to take the 3rd game through sheer guts and determination. Even in the fourth when Mike was match point down he (1-8) he rallied back to 6-8. The final point was very unusually in the ball past Mike so in frustration he throw his racket towards the ball and walk to go off court as he lost the game. Amazingly the flying racket (no hand attached) hit the ball which then boasted onto the front wall. As Mike had his back to the shot he had no idea that the ball was still in play and was not there to hit Andrews return...Ho Hum. On a positive note Sutton have a new number one next week...watch this space. |
