Report: | A closely fought match started with the sprightly and youthful Fred despatching the portly and ageing Terry in less time than it takes to get 10 Aussie wickets. The tall Simon and the skinny Nick fought out a gruelling and punishing five setter, with stamina telling in the end, and Nick just shading it. The Generation Game of Granddad Keith v Peter was extended by Keith's variation of lobs and reverse angles had Peter guessing for a while, but eventually youth triumphed. Ted's accuracy and speed was too much for Rob; which left the match tied at 2-2. The Paul v Stephanie match thus became the decider, and it turned out to be a real nail-biter. Two games all. With the balcony full, and the pressure on, Paul raced to a 5-0 lead. Hand out. Seven rallies later Stephanie lead 6-5, the game continued, nails were bitten, beer was consumed; 7-7, 7-8, a series of hand-outs. As the tired Paul faded, Stephanie took the game 9-7, the plaudits and Christophers the match. Well played and a great bunch of people too. |
