Report: | For the last game of the season Sutton fielded their strongest side, but came up against a spirited Dorking. The Rory and Steve match was wonderful to watch and score, with only a total of 4 points between them on the whole match. Bob Gray from Dorking then out ran and out played Phil Burton, only the second person to do this all season. Full respect to Bob who is in his sixties. With the scores at one all, Nick and Ian stepped into the breach with the first 3 games being extremely close. Nick having the edge and energy to take the last game more easily. The number ones stepped up to great expectation, however Tim Cox was much too strong for Steve and never allowed him to get any rhythm and won convincingly. The final match was a well fought battle with Mike Connaghton playing consistent and accurately and working on the percentages to gain a good win at 3-0. Mike's season has ended with a fine florish. It was also my last night as team captain. It has been a pleasure managing such a great bunch of talented lads and even though we only finished second, we beat the league leaders 4-1 and lost the least amount of matches. Good luck next year to Sutton |
