Report: | The boys were back in town! Old Sutton 2 faced Sutton 1 in a friendly contested match. The first was the number ones, an highly anticipated match...that ended in damp squib with John Cook having to retire at the end of the first game with back problems. The Number 5's then squared off. Sutton's Rob Smith playing his first match in 9 months was coming back in the second game to lose it narrowly at 9-8; Rob then ran out of steam to the fit Cheam's Ken. It was well balanced at 1-1 when Phil and Rory from Sutton entered the courts. Phil played well and comfortably defeated Andy Challen. The Rory game was a different matter. It was very fiesty, especially in the third when Andy dug in and fought back. Rory put on his crash helmet and fought well to win 3-0 and take the match. The last game didn't affect the result, but is was a long battle of two tired guys. It was evenly balanced at 1-1, with Ken taking a big lead in the third game. Somehow Mike fought back to take it 10-8 and then to take the final game 9-2. It was a good win by Sutton and we have some good food and banter afterwards. I feel the return leg could be a feisty event |
