| Report: | A closely fought match with the old guys using their many years of experience to counter the fit, young highly honed athletes of Kings. At 4th string Gary went on first and proceeeded to play anything but squash. No wonder Andy was bemused, as he had come to get a decent game but he couldn't find one anywhere on court 2. Next up was Eric and Paul at 3. Eric zoomed through the first two games always eager to get to the bar quickly, but took his foot off the pedal just as Paul started to work up a good head of steam. With Paul comfortably ahead at 6 -2 in the fifth and having the game all but wrapped up Eric managed to delay proceedings by bouncing balls on his foot, talking through the rallies, wiping down when needing a breather and finally coning Paul out of the match. The less said about the match at second string the better, save that Alex did not require a shower, and did not even work up enough sweat for a beer! In between games Gary kept asking the marker for tactical help but save breaking a few rackets or opponents legs there was little he could do - and he proceeded to do just that - very little. So the match outcome would be decided by the Prima Donas at 1. While Mike moved around the court like a gazelle on the Serengeti, Terry countered this with his impression of a hippo in a mud bath. He dragged Mike down to his very lowly, slowly, sticky, standard and then enveloped him in mud, leaving him choking at a terrible loss. So the absence of Big Woose, our illustrious No1 made no difference at all - in fact it probably strengthened the team - roll on re-nomination time!! In conclusion a good evenings squash against a decent bunch of guys. |
