| Report: | The old stagers of Warlingham started the evening. The two Marks playing an undistinguished and quick match with Mark F the winner. Meanwhile the profusely sweating Nick had an excellent match against John (clearly practicing for a forthcoming 'Kenny from South Park look-a-like contest' dressed in full tracksuit, boiler jacket and matching hoody, fought out what turned out to be the decisive rubber. John's internal sweating overcoming Nick's more flamboyant shirt changing style, 3-1. The argumentative and grumpy Jason (if Mr Disney had ever needed an eighth dwarf, no doubt Jason would have offered his services, but it would have been a toss-up if he's been named Grumpy or Stumpy; either way, he was too good for Rob, whose tireless running came to no avail, losing 0-3. That left the match pivotally staged at 2-1 to Surbiton with only Ryan versus the last remaining Mark to finish. Crucially, Ryan's superior speed and deft lobs getting the better of a resigned but smiling Mark 3-0. Thus the matches level at two all, the countback rule applied, and Surbiton hearts were broken. Hard lines chaps, but hats off to you for creating our largest bar bill of the season so far. We cannot wait for the return, and revenge! |
