Report: | A fine win for Warlingham which sees them dash up the league table from 4th bottom to, er, 4th bottom. The evening started on court one with Hannah mullering Ian(not Brian - Tim pls adjust)but only in the knock up. Come the game she very sportingly allowed the older player to retain his dignity for the car journey home. Meanwhile on court 2 Ray was surprising everyone by actually getting a win. Ladbrokes will be filing for chapter 11 shortly. Moving on, Chris had his first win of the season and surpassed all expectations by playing a winning backhand. This tumultuous event was last witnessed in the winter of 1992, (another mis-hit)before Hannah had even been born, and so we all feel very honoured to have been present at this one. It was then onto the gel boys at No1. Had it been a boxing match the ref would have stopped the fight after the third round to save James from further punishment - shows you how wrong refs can be. Completely out on his feet, he managed to pull off a fine win against our resident marathon runner. So matches at 2 all and the hairless wonders at second string to decide the outcome. Fastest off the blocks was Tim like a whippet out of the traps, but lob by lob the Octopus closed in on this running machine, and with some deft touches and lousy marking, managed to get back to level at 2-2. Paul screamed away to a 7-0 lead in the 5th only to be pulled back by Tim who had a second wind. With the whole balcony oohhing and aahhing Paul managed to scrape home for a close fought win which could have gone either way. A couple of very good matches and a fine evening overall. |
