Report: | A dark dark night for woeful Warlingham. To paraphrase Churchill, never has so much trash been played by so many and gained so few(points). Was it too much Christmas pud, or too much alcohol - we will never know, but 4 lampposts on court would have done better - might have given us at least a few rebounds. It all started so well with Marc showing all us oldies what young legs could do. Unfortunately the young brain was left out on our cricket square - obviously having a kip down at third man! To his credit Roger took full advantage of the lack of slips and gully. Meanwhile on court 1 Dave went down in 4, to a rather bright turquoise headband, which took at least ten minutes to roll up and put on. Mike, relegated to court 2, as it has three inside walls to deaden the Sharapova screams of his, nearly pulled off an upset in the third. The "nearly" man of Warlingham. If only he could nearly "lose" rather than nearly win. On court 1 the gel boys got under way with the classic play making sweetly struck shots of Steve, getting completely mullered by the numerous mishits, edges, and frame shots of Gary. Steve's despairing looks up to the balcony, the rolling of the eyes, the shoulder slumping, all summed up this rather quick game. So down to Ray to salvage some pride. Some hope - No hope. The evening was best surmised by one of Ray's delicate, precise, and deft drop shots, which rolled ~(yes I mean rolled) into the nick - at the bottom of the tin. Game over. However the best was yet to come. In the bar there was a lively and rather well informed discussion about the forthcoming six nations rugby which will be much more interesting than Warlingham's woeful 3rd squash team. Nevertheless, let us not take anything away from West Byfleet, they did their best, played their hardest, put in stacks of effort and were, just slightly, less woeful than Warlingham!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck for the rest of the season chaps - despite the write up, a pleasant evening. |
