Report

Report: Finally the woefuls of Warlingham reversed their current form and sneaked a win. First up were Gary and Tim, like 2 bull tuskers trying to knock down a tree there was to be no subtlety here. The plaster on the front wall took a real tonking, as they battered away at each other, with Gary eventually proving to have the bigger of the two trumpets. Meanwhile on court 1 Mick came out of retirement (again) and tried his best to roll back the years. But apart from some wistful memories of yesteryear in set 2 the legs were just not willing to go the distance. Michael and Ray (that lean, mean, drop shot machine) were next up. Power and quick legs against guile and craftiness. Enthusiasm and effort against deft shot playing and a hang dog look. Twas no contest - the old grey beard ran out a comfortable winner. At the same time Paul on court 1 was having a good game with Mark. Having lost the second 0-9, he told us he had a cunning plan! To the regulars on the balcony it looked more like his usual dross, but he managed to drag Mark down to his lowly standard (that was his plan all along)and snatch a much needed win. That left the new boys at No.5. Not so much a game of squash as a game of "avoid the racket swing" avoid the 2 yellow dots ricocheting off every wall at every angle, and every speed. For some rallies the whole balcony ducked for fear of getting hit. After a comeback in the third, Chris eventually gained the upper hand in a very tight finish, and gained a close win, despite some very dodgy home marking. Once these two are more used to team games they should perform well. Good evening all round and a decent bunch of chaps. Hope to see you all in the summer.
