Report: | Enjoyable games all, though the advantage of experience (and ability) in most cases went to Cheam.
As a relative newbie to team squash, I (David) lost 3-0 to Kim, a Surrey squash vet. I lost two games and some points before I started to score more, and that was far too late!
Alvern (another newcomer) struggled hard against Jimmy (also experienced) though some occasionally brilliant trickle boasts meant the odd point scored.
The highlight for me was watching Ant and Andy fight it out for top dog in the 1st Players match, this being both the hardest fought and longest match of the evening. I started out marking (for virtually the first time) but the experience on-court led to frustrations with newbie uncertainty about decisions... so I handed over the reins to a more experienced ref, allowing a less stressed last 2 couple of games all round!
Unfortunately I didn't see the other 2 games, but I believe they were hard fought!
The evening rounded off with beers and curry, as well as tips and hints on improving (both playing and marking in my case!). :-) |
