Report

Report:A good set of matches, though shortage of players meant PX put in a relatively inexperienced team that were outclassed at every turn by both an experienced and extremely fit "A-team" from Richmond.

The night started with the 2s. Richard arrived early and started warming up a ball (by warming, I mean heating it to red hot temperatures... his game is hard and fast). Andy was outgunned and suffered a baptism of fire in his return to team squash after 2 years out due to injury.

The 5s were on in parallel with the 2s, a game I marked. John (at 63) gave Ben (a mere boy... by comparison anyway!) a serious run for his money by going 2 games up. Ben found John's high lob serve and beautiful drop shots difficult to cope with. However, he rallied in game 3 and a series of hard crossing shots and great trickle boasts made John chase the ball too much... and he tired. The remaining games dropped quite quickly, though John tried to staunch the points heamorrhage.

Alvern, Anthony, and David were all beaten in three sets, albeit with various degrees of fight.
- Alvern lost hard, but put up occasional flashes of brilliance. Unfortunately on winning serve he almost always lost it immediately again to Laurence.
- Ant was close to winning the first game, but was ultimately beaten by a harder, faster Dean.
- I fought hard to get a few points, but my shots were often wild (or went in the tin) and I didn't watch Nigel carefully enough... all to often allowing him to simply placed the ball where I was not!

A great evening, despite another league 9 drubbing!
