Report: | A closely contested match, in which the Warlingham Woefuls narrowly lost out to the mid table mediocrity of Ebbisham. First up was Dave, then about 5 minutes later he had finished, and the warm up was 4 minutes 30 seconds! Had finished - he looked well finished to us up on the balcony. Gary then went on for his usual quick 3 - 0, the mis-hits must have been working normally, and all this time Eric was still in the first set on court one. It was a tussle between young legs and power against old age, craftiness and cunning, and for once the young legs of Martin overcame a 5-0 deficit in the fifth to gain a victory over the fat old man. We then had two more gigantic 5 setters with Ray managing to tin easy drops against John and go down in the 5th, while the two headless chickens at 3rd string, managed to run themselves stupid. How, we shall never know, as all they did was hit the ball back to each other down the middle, and to most observers it looked like some betting scam going on, but eventually Dan's better strokes prevailed against Marc's enduring legs. Tight match all round, and at least Martin turned up this time, unlike in the summer! |
