Report

Report:Great matches, hard fought, good craic!

Clayton won the first easily, was strong in the second to 8-8 then 9-8 up, but hit the tin and made another small mistake allowing Mike to beat him 10-9. Clayton’s back was beginning to play up and he visibly slowed his game down, but some beautiful tiny front drop boasts from Mike meant 2 more losses. A game fight!

Anthony looked strong but slightly rusty, but James was stronger (winning in straight sets). Both first games were hard fought with Ant getting 4 and then 7 points) but he lost focus somewhat in the last (I didn’t see it, but the score was 9-0!)

Graham put up a good show, losing the first but winning the second 10-8. The next 2 games were both hard work, but he finished down 9-7 in both cases, losing 3-1.

Neil was the PX star of the night, winning his match 3-1. He lost the first 5-9. But brilliantly turned the tables and won the second 9-0. Two respectable games followed 9-5, and 9-6.

In my own game, I found it hard to get started and fumbled many balls in the first game to go 9-0 down. I found my feet a bit in game 2 and pushed my way to 8-8, with the slightly larger Tim being pushed nicely around the court and (at one point) looking rather red faced after a hard point (his team mates said it looked like he was going to have a heart attack!). I think we were at 8-8 with my serve when he chased a ball incredibly well to the back, flipped it off the back, and it oughtn't to have gone up (in my opinion!!)… but it did, and I was so surprised I failed to do anything sensible with it, lost the serve and then the game 10-8! It went downhill from there, and while I tried hard in game 3 I went 9-5 down to lose 3-0.

They’re a great bunch of guys though and the meal was good, if a little carb high (both rice and Naan Bread with a curry).
