Report: | Oh dear - another dreadful night for the Warlingham Woefuls. First up was the grey sideburned Chris against a youthful hopeful. The old grey haired master was too crafty for a young rooster who was off his game. Meanwhile on court one, Gary - our resident copper - still smarting from a 3 point penalty for driving while phoning,(twas on his last visit to Preston Cross) was determined to gain some sort of revenge. He didn't. Paul, on heavy drugs, prescription of course, but we will not say what sort of clinic prescribed them - Tim, Mr. Leaguemeister is there a drug testing policy here? - gave a good fist of it, but had to call it a day, and go back to the clinic. Marc our resident runner, was then up against the Cross's big hope - some hope!- Nick has such an impressive girth, his beam is wider than the Ark Royal. However, Nick, unlike the Ark Royal, was not yet on the scrap heap, and after some crowd pleasing rallies, the big beamed Ark came out on top - as you would expect from a flat top, or should that be in the case of Nick. round bottomed / and frontomed? That left the Rosslyn Park stand-off, to play the fat old grumpy git at No.1. Twas a close run thing with Eric talking his way out of many tough situations, and although being 7-1 up in the 4th, the fat old pensioner couldn't quite cope with the young legs and speed of an opponent who refused to be dragged down to the old mans level. Courts are colder back at Preston Cross for the return though! Looks like a long hard season, but we have broad shoulders and are well prepared to prop up the whole division, from the depths to which we will undoubtedly plumb. A good evening, against a decent bunch of chaps, and we look forward to the return. |
