Lakeside 2 v Dorking’s Bulls
Away 11th December 2013
Author: Kenevil

Some might say…………. We had joy, we had fun, we had…..we had seasons in the sun. But the sun was alone……….la la la la la la la!........Wednesday gone saw the Bulls beat down a well warn path to SW19. It was time to gauge our season’s barometer against one of the Non-pro teams. Like an unjust Banker’s bonus, we were gifted the knowledge that their star player Henry Prideaux was returning from Oman but had been called up to the Lakeside 1st playing on the same site against our 2nd half round foe’s Surrey sports park 2 (they look…bloody good)……. Good job…….That left the lakers short to 4 players on the night and spared them a whipping from our Maestro poised to dispense his magic.

At 1, Stormin was first on against Lloyd Barcza. Lloyd is a talented South African shot maker with a solid build. James described him as a shorter, more hulky version of James T. (not Kirk)! I only saw glimpses of this match but what I saw was James was slightly off his game, with a few uncharacteristic unforced errors. James felt he was frustrated as Lloyds dominance of the T was difficult to deal with in a polite manner. James didn’t describe “the situation” as such but Bob may raise an eyebrow if I used the Sussex vocabulary. Although James underperformed on the night on the court, his performance at the bar was impressive…………Rob(driver) had no chance to compete!!!! James went down 0-3 (5-11, 9-11, 4-11). James gave Allcock a spanking 3-1 in the Sussex league yesterday. Awesome mate! Awesome!!!

Next on was Jack Martell at 2 against Richard Evans. After a nervous start, Jack proceeded steadily, powering down super length and pace combined with measured volley winners. Show stoppers!!! Richard approached his uncoupled anaerobic threshold early in the second game and was never really in it after that. On this occasion the laker was sporting one of those Maldives Michelin rings that were fashionable with some of our previous Bulls. Jack took this match 3-1 (11-13, 11-2, 11-4, 11-1). Super touch and stuff!!

That left Robert Norman to rescue Stormin pride. Rob at 4, was up against the son of Will Exelby, Sam (aged 15 I think). Will has dished many a Dorking player a come-up-pence defeat. Stuff-it-in-the-nick was a little off colour for the evening’s match and struggled to get to grips with Sam’s retrieval consistency. A rather close contest with perhaps another encounter may prove a different score line. On this occasion, Rob sucked a defeat in 0-3 (7-11, 4-11, 9-11).

So….At number 3, I was on against their captain Jack Albrow. I struggled initially to get to grips with Jacks power and length. Making some unforced errors I went 7-0 down. I took that game. Jack received only 4 points after that. Jack doesn’t play as many drops as me, so we’re not talking a lot of drops then? After the initial click, I took this match 3-0 (13-11, 11-0, 11-4).

Normans performed well at the bar and the food was top notch as always. We stuffed ourselves with spicy chicken pasta and the famous Lakeside cheeseboard. Henry joined us……sporting his movember…..quite impressive!!!

So a Bloody good start to the 1st half to the season Guys!…. well “£%&&!*&^%)+## ‘ken done!!.........You can all be very proud and confident that you are in with a fighting chance for the second half. With just a few toughies in our draw (Purley 1, Surbiton 1)…….Bring them to Pappa!!

Vicar Vin has had his fun……punishment beatings are over with!!

Over and out
