| Report: | Thank you Bourne for a tough match and a good social evening. Contest of the evening was obviously Mike and Paul's. With over 120 years of experience between them they played for 70 draining minutes for the honours at 4th string.
Mike cruised to win the first game. Then he lost two games and went 7-3 down to Paul in the 4th. But, with momentum the size of a tsunami against him, Mike contrived to mount a comeback and serged through to level the match at two all.
Now, with Mike cruising again at 6-1 in the 5th (nearly there!), Paul dug-in and got to match ball first (surely all over now!) . . . .
. . . But NO! Mike saves the point and went on to win four more points in a row to win an epic.
Exhaustion, Elation, Desperation - but this was the tie that secured the contest for West Byfleet. And they did it all for fun!
PS Both survive to fight another day. |
