The latest version 5 of the league rules have now been issued and supercede any previous ones. A number of rules have been changed, mainly to reflect the new league format for the Surrey Cup, but others have been reworded or moved to new sections. However, apart from the main changes mentioned in the List of main changes document (see below), the basics are still the same. Having said that, there are a number of issues that still exist, although adding them as rules has been resisted, at least for now:

• The rules specifically do not allow matches to be rearranged and if none were, then the leagues would run a lot more smoothly. However, if you do rearrange YOU MUST agree on a new date immediately and if you can't, then the team who who has been asked to rearrange should NOT agree to do so.
• Although the rules allow individual strings to be rearranged if a player is in a recognised event, there seems to be a tendency to abuse this and use somewhat questionable excuses as to why a string should be played at another time. The events that qualify for this allowance in the rules is likely to be reduced in the future.
• A Surrey Cup match, for instance, is for teams of a 5 players. Not 4 and definitely not 3. Future rules may state that turning up with only 3 players is unacceptable and the offending team must accept a walkover but even only having 4 players shows a lack of organisation and consideration by a team. If any team makes a habit of not turning up with the correct number of players, they may be penalised! d) While it is inevitable that players may struggle at times to arrive at the start of a match, the general attitude seems to be that any time will do. It will not and there have been many cases over the last year of players either not turning up at all claiming bad traffic, or turning up too late to play.
