Report:The Unofficial: Match report for Dorking Bulls v Lakeside 4 @ home 6th February 2013 Author: Acting Deputy Captain Kenevil

Some say.................with Scoop, 10 pint, Banker Bull and the Porsche Driving Ozzie all absent, the nights encounter was looking……..well……slightly lightweight and dodgy!!! Lakeside arrived without their number one Mark Singleton (plays PayPal for a job in Ireland Sunday to Wednesday each week).………Phew!..........We were in with a chance?

There was a welcome return of the Dorking champ, Adam Donoghue (Top Bull, Top Cock……..C’mon…………..Do you have any names guys?.......Well do you?) At the 3rd tier, Adam had desires of gently easing his vertical meniscal tear in to action lower down the order. No chance buddy!.......Well not tonight anyway. Adam D proceeded to have the best knock up of the night against Scottie’s 1st round away bout foe Logon Poyurs (a south Africana of Lithuanian decent). The night’s opening game, saw powerful big hitting rallies from the Lakeman and with it dispensing and dishing a dint in Dorking’s desires. Adam went down 1-0 (6-9) and our Banker of the night looked like he was taking a measured approach. This match appeared to be quite close but steady shot making mixed up with drops from the back from Adam, gradually sapped his giant opponent’s energy. Adam’s orthodox technique with precision execution and patient ability to ground out the rallies took Mr Donoghue a deserved victory 3-1 (6-9, 9-3, 9-5, 9-6). No wall slapping or the evil stares were required this evening to conquer this springbok.

On the adjacent court, I played Richard Evans and was a bit too sharp at one and quickly dispensed Ricky 3-0 (9-3, 9-1, 9-1). Not sure what was cooking…..well I suppose I did……..but Mr Evans left very shortly after.

So at 2-0 up, the Bulls were strutting around with their chests puffed out sensing a kill to be had rather than a Pamplona trampling. Playing at 4 it was a welcome début for the season to another Adam, in the form of a Son of Conisbee. Swashbuckling onto the court, Adam C displayed some tremendous atomic level intensity, with play dazzling his opponent into self-destruction. Jon Menhinick (Dutch) was failing to cope with Adams speed, agility and power. However, Adams energy half life burnt a little too quickly and with it the output wattage dropped enabling Jon to capitalize on some of Adam’s looser play and destruct button. It was a close one at times, Adam going down 2-3 (9-2, 9-5, 8-10, 3-9, 0-9). Well done Adam!!! Great to see you playing so well.

Next on at 5, it was a welcome return to the Frankster…….With 2Jags chairman Bob watching, we were certainly hoping that perhaps Mr Entertain Me Bull could put his Newbers hat on!!!!! Yes sir Ree!!.........Roberto wished me to note, that Frankie’s opponent (Alasdair Nivan) was 10 years FF’s senior. Some of my team mates can be a little nasty!!! Things didn’t quite start so well for Frankie and Alasdair’s left handedness caught Frankie on the hop. Alasdair exploited a wicked trickle left handed forehand boast and showed great penetration to Mr French’s backhand. But the tide was turning and shouts of “twit” from Mr Nivan and querying the umpire’s decisions rattled Alasdair enough for the former Dorking Champ to show his true credentials!!!! After losing the first game, Great Spirit, determination combined with some deep breathing (almost Darth like…….well almost!!!) struck a fatal blow to the Lakemen and put a sword through their hopes of snatching a victory. This Bull has rescued his Near Donut experience and purged his gizzards of this bilious memory. In the last game, Frankie chopped him…….like a carrot!!!!! Well done Frankster 3-1 (5-9, 9-6, 9-7, 9-3).

So last on playing at 2………..It was time for Roberto Norman to step up to the plate and feast on a top dog opportunity. Quite possibly, this dog has the ability to breeze these contests but it remained to see whether it was to be the end of his unbeaten run!!!!! Jack Albrow was the best dressed horse of the night in flouro orange complete with bandana…….This must have made Rob super Jealous? Even Frankie couldn't compete!! Rob was like a greyhound out of the blocks……smashing immaculate punchy length drives and return of serve nicks….At one stage I thought the ball was going to break. The tension, spilled a little for Rob into some reckless errors and Jack showed lightning speed and retrieval ability. At times Rob had too much time on the ball and went for a quick ending of the rally which quite often resulted in a quick death of his run. Rob played a brilliantly impressive and entertaining match and took the points home 3-2 (7-9, 9-5, 9-5, 3-9, 9-3). His run continues…………

The Bulls spanked a few more points on the board taking this very close contest 4-1 (18-8).

A feast of KukuPaka (chicken and coconut) curry, vege pasties was washed down with a few Coronas and good company. Home of the cheeseboard Lakeside were treated to Lancashire Stilton, mature cheddar and some castello blue. Loynton, Newberry and Chell featured as characters of the Game….and of course the near donut experience!

Bob wished me to praise the angelic behaviour and impeccable manners, on and off the Court, from the Frankster!! Everyone needs a Rachael Wilmot experience at some stage!………..…..character building!!

Over and out.
