Report

Report:Once again another very friendly encounter with a Reigate team. It started with Geoff playing Tom, it turned out to be a tough game for Geoff not helped by constantly hitting the ball straight back to Tom who must have thought Christmas was all over. The captains advice after game 2 came a bit too late....sorry Geoff.
The crunch game of this fixture turned out to be between John and Nick, it saw John taking the the lead only for Nick to not just equalize but then take the 3rd game needing just one more game for the match but obviously John had other ideas by taking the 4th from 7-1 down...game on you would think. However after an edgy start by both players to the 5th game, Nick found just that much extra needed to take it.
Tony started the first game on fire with amazing court coverage and pin point lobs that Dennis was struggling to dig out of the corners. His good form continued at the start of the 2nd taking an early lead to game point (8-2). Requiring just that one point it seemed like Tony had this one in the bag, but Dennis had other ideas and with Tonys game dwindling Dennis took the game 10-8. The 3rd and 4th games went to Dennis as Tonys resistance faded.
Poor John arrived early but had to wait till the end to play Michael. An although the score doesn't reflect it this was closer on court than on paper. But Michael came through on top.
Nick playing at string 1 for the first time must have seemed daunted for a committed tennis player. But he outplayed Stuart throughout, although Stuart made too many unforced errors to almost gift Nick the first 2 games. But Stuart managed to take game 3 from 7-3 down, was this the turning point? Nick was back on his A game in the 4th to take it, (give up tennis Nick you know you prefer this game!!!)
Well played Reigate at least this was closer than the first game in October.
